The rapid proliferation of sophisticated battery-powered consumer electronics, such as PDAs, Laptops, and Smart Phones, and our reliance on these devices to conduct our daily personal and business affairs, has placed an increasing strain on the power sources which support the portability of these devices. Unfortunately, the battery industry has not kept pace with the demand for the additional power that is needed to meet the increased usage of these devices which include web surfing, email, texting, and even video.

While many of us use SmartPhones in place of land lines, the primary advantage is their portability function. For some people, this feature is critical to the usefulness of the device. They rely on cell phones and laptops each day in order to conduct business and operate efficiently. If these tools are lost because of a battery outage, production and communication literally stops until the battery can be recharged.

This is what one veteran engineer told us recently:

“There is very little doubt that power consumption is the critical issue with today’s smart phones and other converged devices. Cell phone manufacturers and companies such as Apple are always striving to make devices more power efficient. The advancement of technological portability is virtually limitless except for the power source. If one could figure out how to significantly increase the charge life of today’s lithium-ion batteries, that company will have Silicon Valley and a large part of the technological world in the palm of their hands.”

I personally had to laugh when I read an article titled, “How to Increase the Battery Life of a Cell Phone”. It included advice such as don’t use features that you don’t need. Well, isn’t that the reason why I bought the phone in the first place. I have a better one – turn off the cell phone when not in use. Well that doesn’t make much sense either.

That is why when we first contacted Ed Dillon, CEO of Genesis Electronics Group (PRCC: OTCBB), I asked him if he was feeling a little taller these days. “You’re sitting on top of a gold mine,” I added. Ben Franklin once said that the greatest secrets are words in front of you. These words couldn’t ring more true when I read the following words on the website of Genesis Electronics Group – “We’ve developed this technology to produce solar chargers for multi-featured cell phones, such as the G-1000 designed for the iPhone™”.

Called the Sun Blazer™, the device uses solar power to store the energy for an “on demand” use of power. The charger can be left attached to the cell phone for continuous “smart charging”, or it can be used simply to provide a power boost. As the Genesis website states,, now you can rely on your cell phone to be continuously and intelligently charged.

As of March 31, 2009, the company had 125,292,739 shares outstanding. With a market capitalization of less than $10,000,000, it’s no wonder that Ed Dillon is feeling good about his company’s future.

From the voice and data providers to the gadget and box makers, there is no one in this chain who doesn’t want to see increased usage of these devices. Longer battery life means more money because of increased usage . For CEO Ed Dillon and the rest of the Genesis staff, just one contract with a company like Apple could make this stock soar.

There’s much more to this company and we’ll discuss their other business in our next post.
